The 2010 West End Homes Tour was a

smashing success!

by Clare Fader, Home Tour Co-Chair and WE Association VP

The 2010 West End Homes Tour was a smashing success. Thanks to everyone who helped make it happen - homeowners, volunteers, docents, and many more. The turn out was great, especially given the rainy conditions. The money is still being counted but it looks as though the tour will have raised around $4,000 for the neighborhood. Part of the reason we were able to raise the amount of money that we did is thanks to the generous support of our sponsors. These include, Piedmont Federal Savings Banks, Leonard Ryden Burr Real Estate, Wilson-Covington Construction Company, Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, Kirt A Watkins State Farm Insurance, Sir Speedy and Express Graphics. Please support these local businesses!

We owe another round of thanks to the businesses who sold tickets in advance. They are Wholefoods, Re-Tale, Mozelle’s, Caffe Prada, Elizabeth’s Antiques, Old Winston Social Club. Wholefoods also donated much of the food served at the after-party. Thanks also to the businesses along Burke Street who opened for the day. And Old Winston Social Club turned out to be a fantastic tour headquarters. If you haven’t checked out this recent addition to the neighborhood, I highly recommend you do.

We were also able to collect a trunk load of food for the Aids Care Service Food Pantry. They were really grateful for the donation.

As co-chair of this years tour, I look forward to passing on the gauntlet (or in the case the large box of past tour paraphernalia) to the 2012 Homes Tour Organizers. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Again, a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. This years homes tour committee included Jenni Hopkins Mower (co-chair) Bill Brewer, George Bryan, Evelyn Diana Chen, Caroline and Matt Chambers, Kim Dishner, Hillary Peterson, Kathleen Ramich, Sarah Williamson, Jeff Zillner, David Phillips, Herbert Krabel, & Vicki Latimer Roan.

How many houses are on the tour this year?

The tour headquarters is at Old Winston Social Club (link) on Burke Street.
Participants can pick up the tour brochure, enjoy complimentary hot apple cider and live music.

I'd like to go but it looks like a lot of walking. What should I do?
There will be drivers available to pick you up and drop you off at the various houses on the tour.

I'd like to go but I have small children who I don't think would enjoy it. What should I do?
